RESUMO

An asymptomatic male in his mid-30s presented with a positive Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test report. He was investigated and detected to be reactive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 antibodies. A lumbar puncture revealed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) VDRL to be reactive at a titer of 1:160 which led to a diagnosis of asymptomatic neurosyphilis. The unavailability of first-line antibiotics necessitated the search for alternative regimens. The patient was administered oral doxycycline 200 mg twice daily for 28 days along with intramuscular benzathine penicillin 2.4 million units once weekly for three weeks. A repeat CSF-VDRL performed six months later with raised titers of 1:320 indicated treatment failure. The patient was then administered ceftriaxone 1 g intramuscularly for 14 consecutive days. A final CSF-VDRL examination performed six months later showed non-reactive titers.

RESUMO

Reticulate pigmentary disorders are autosomal dominant pigmentary disorders caused by abnormalities in the keratin 5 and keratin 14 genes. Here, we report three cases of reticulate hyperpigmentation disorders with clinical overlaps of the reticulate acropigmentation of Kitamura, Dowling-Degos disease (DDD), and dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria (DSH), all three having limited treatment options.

RESUMO

Naevus of Ito and naevus of Ota are benign dermal melanocytoses with similar pathogenic mechanisms of failure in the melanocyte migration to typical locations within the basal layer from neural crest cells and differ in distribution. Bilateral and oral mucosal involvement of naevus of Ota can occur but is infrequent. Naevus of Ito is seldom associated with naevus of Ota and extracutaneous manifestations. A review of the English literature showed 14 cases of naevus of Ota with palatal involvement. None showed bilateral involvement of both naevi with oral involvement. Here we report the case of bilateral naevus of Ito and bilateral naevus of Ota with palatal involvement. A 32-year-old male came to us with naevus of Ito on both sides of his back and naevus of Ota on both sides of his face involving the sclera of both eyes with a bluish lesion along the midline of the hard palate.

RESUMO

Misinformation or fake news has had multifaceted ramifications with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, creating widespread panic amongst people. This study investigates the impact of misinformation/ fake news (on internet platforms) on consumer buying behavior, impact of fear (created by fake news) on hoarding of essential products and consumer spending and finally impact of misinformation-induced panic buying on supply chain disruptions. It draws upon the consumer decision theory and the cognitive load theory for explaining the psychological and behavioral responses of consumers. The study follows an inductive approach towards theory building using a multi-method approach. Initially, a qualitative research method based on interviews followed by text-mining has been used followed by analysis using python for topic modelling using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The findings revealed several prominent themes like consumer shift to online buying, two contrasting spending intentions namely financial security and compensatory consumptions, irrational panic buying, uncertainty/ambiguity of government protocol and norms, social media fraudulent practices and misinformation dissemination, personalized buying experience, reduced trust on news and marketers, logistics and transportation bottlenecks, labor shortage due to migration and plant closures, and bullwhip effect in supply chains.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nurses play a dominant role in the healthcare sector. However, the working condition of nurses in India is far from satisfactory due to a variety of factors. This is further compounded by the lack of respect for nurses and their profession. Therefore, there is a need to examine factors that could mitigate this situation. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between authentic leadership and employee creativity, while determining the mediating effect of knowledge sharing behaviour and moderating effect of use of information technology on this association. DESIGN: A questionnaire-based survey was used to collect the data. Macro process (Hayes) was used to examine the mediating role of knowledge sharing behaviour and the moderating role of use of information technology in the relationship between authentic leadership and employee creativity. SETTINGS: Data was collected from 43 small- and medium-sized hospitals in the state of Uttarakhand, India. PARTICIPANTS: The participants in the present study were 405 nurses and their 81 supervisors from the above hospitals. RESULTS: Results indicate that authentic leadership is positively linked to the creativity of employees. Further, knowledge sharing behaviour is found to mediate the relationship between authentic leadership and employee creativity, while use of information technology acts as a moderator between knowledge sharing behaviour and employee creativity. The findings of this investigation can help healthcare managers understand the importance of knowledge creation and knowledge sharing among healthcare workers. This paper draws attention to the need for hospital administrators to establish an appropriate information technology infrastructure to effectively manage the knowledge pool of the organization. This study also highlights the importance of effective leadership style, namely authentic leadership, in positively influencing employee creativity in healthcare institutions, a service oriented industry. CONCLUSION: This study contributes to existing research on authentic leadership and employee creativity by showing that knowledge sharing behaviour and use of information technology are important and relevant variables that affect the degree of influence that authentic leadership has on employee creativity.
